How does Metal Removal Task Take Place?

How does Metal Removal Task Take Place?
November 13, 2019TrentcoNews & Updates

The scrap metal world is giant. There is not a country in the world where the scrap metal business is not flourishing. Metal is used for a wide variety of purposes. It is impossible to think of life without metal. Unfortunately, this natural resource is limited. Metal recycling is the only way to continue to use metal for a long time. Metal removal is the technology to use metal again. Metal removal in Texas is handled by salvage yards. They are known as a specialist to separate metal.

Preparation of Metal Removal

  1. A scrapyard accepts a material as scrap metal only when it is made up of at least 50% metal. It doesn’t matter whether the material is surrounded by other materials like plastic, it is still acceptable to recycle.
  2. The scrapyard will not say no to a material even if it is a small amount of metal. However, the metal should be easy to separate. For example- Televisions contain copper, iron, gold, and platinum. Copper wires are easy to remove.
  3. Scrap metal has two categories- ferrous and non-ferrous. A magnet helps to sort the two different metals. Advanced technology is used to separate metals.

Types of Metal that can be Recycled

In non-ferrous categories, aluminum, copper, nickel, lead, stainless steel, tin, and zinc are recycled after removal. They can be reused again and again without losing their properties. In ferrous, steel and iron are reused. Corrosion influences the strength of the iron, but it can be used multiple times by making them corrosion proof.

Collection of Scrap Metal

Many people like to collect scrap metal to resell it to supplement their income. They have adopted the business either full time or part-time. Scrap yards buys metal from these individuals. However, individual sellers are not enough for a scrapyard. Companies like oil and gas agencies, manufacturing houses and MNCs are associated with scrap yards to clear their unused materials such as heavy machines, redundant pipes, and computers. They play a major role in the collection of metal.

Process of Metal Removal or Recycling

The process of metal removal is also known as metal recycling. When the sorting process is initiated, the scrap metal goes through several processes.

Radiation Detector

Scrap metal passes through a radiation detector to separate radioactive scrap. While collecting scrap, the salvage yard takes precautions to avoid radioactive materials but a radiation detector helps to removal all radioactive scrap.

Shearing

Shearing is the process of cutting metals into manageable sizes. During this process, hydraulic machinery is used to apply high pressure on metal to cut into pieces.

Shredding

In the process, metal is cut into very small pieces with the help of a feed roller and hammer mill.

Separation

It is necessary to separate ferrous from non-ferrous. For which, a magnet drum is used that attracts ferrous metal with its magnetic force.

Media Separation

Separation using a magnet drum is not sufficient because some content of non-ferrous may be in ferrous metals. Therefore, eddy current separator is used. High-pressure airflow and liquid floating systems separate ferrous from non-ferrous metals.

Baling

In this process, metal is made into compact large blocks to facilitate transportation and handling.
