How to Smartly Sort Scrap Metal at Your Home
June 24, 2019TrentcoNews & Updates

Do you know how much value your scrap metals have to both you and the environment? The scrap you collect can be an excellent source of extra income. All you need to know is how to sort them smartly and sell them to a salvage yard. Below are some guidelines to sort scrap metals like a pro.

Essential Equipment

If you are serious about collecting and selling metals, rent or buy a vehicle for the job. At the same time, buy all essential equipment such as rubber gloves, a hammer, glasses, a magnet, a weighing machine and saws to cut metal. Old unused items like vehicles and home appliances can have sharp edges and hazardous liquid that can harm your health. Protection is always a priority. There are some additional items you will need in order to separate your metals and to make loading and sorting easy.

Use Containers to Collect & Separate Metals

Use either a large plastic bin, cardboard box or any large container to collect metals. Having two designated containers to sort metals will be easiest. It will allow you to collect both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Keep the container size big enough to allow you to collect a large number of metals. If you have a large amount of metal, junkyards will give you the platform to negotiate for the price. Therefore, it helps you to earn more.

Label Containers to Make Sorting Easy

With the help of a pen or a permanent marker, label the container. You can use masking tape to label them on the tape. Use a dark marker to label each container and do so where the label is easily visible.

Sort by Magnet
